Today at work (now, actually) I am creating a chart that requires me to type "BL,SS,GR" over and over. It reminds me of A Bliss Girl every time.
Anyone else had any incidental AYBS?-related experiences? |

I think if I said "I can't recommend the rhubarb...and the toad has jumped OUT of the hole!" my clients would be upset. In other words I can't take AYBS? to work.

Quote: I see I am not the only person. You can do it and get by with it because they don't know what it means. However I did it at work one day and there was a man there that came up to me and in a British accent said I know what that means. Come to find out he is from Salisbury England. We got to talking and he says that he uses it here too because people don't know what it means. When I told him that I was going to England he said not to use it there because it might tick some people off like giving the finger here does. |

I love to give the two fingered saliute to people. I also tell them what it means, if they ask.I work with a lot of Hispanic people and they think it's something to do with me having their wives so I don't use it anymore at work.

Wide ties for men are becoming fashionable again here, and believe me, I notice every time men come in my store wearing them! We even sell some very 70s looking ties, one certainly could have been Lucas's, and one is more like Mr Humphries.

For the last couple of years, here in the States, the 70's look is very in. I worked in the garment industry recently and was shocked to see how populr bell bottoms and hip huggers are.

I had an experience today that reminded me of the show as well. I was in a local department store that I think all of you should visit if you ever come to Plymouth (southern England), called Dingles. I was looking for something, and the older, Slocombe like saleslady told me it was in Accounts on the Third Floor. That sounded so Grace Bros, I didn't know how she could say it with a straight face - I just tried not to laugh!

Quote: Well, take your rest in peace, knowing that I, for one, do not like loose trousers. I do so love the 70's. I'm all for a revival! Effects of AYBS? viewing I've noticed: I use Lucas-style sarcasm when provoked, even when I'm being serious. I tidy up mannequins when going through the rather dull deptartment stores in the local malls around here. I take elevenses whether I'm sanctioned or not. I have terrible urges to take inside legs, even though my career is in computers. |

I had started using the two-finger salute and the phrases "I'm free" and "I'm neither one way nor the other" at work. Sadly, no one got the references

A couple of years ago, a group of friends from work went out to shoot pool. And we all talked smack to each other, you know how you do. And one guy was knocking them in left and right, and I was losing hands-down. And annoyed, I said, "Yes, you're full of Old World Charm tonight!" And he was like, "what?" But he started laughing. So I'd say it quite a bit. Before I knew it, he was saying it. Then it got reduced to "O.W.C." And it became a phrase used among friends.
I remember "Old World Charm" used sarcastically in AYBS... that's where I got it from. Not sure exactly which episode I picked it up from, it may have come up more than once. I seem to remember Lucas saying it. I've said phrases here and there before, but that's the only one that really stuck. Don't know why! |

Old World Charm is also used in Is It Catching. When Mr. Grossman offers Mrs. Slocombe his seat in the canteen, she says it....to indicate he has old fashioned good manners toward a woman.

Old Continental Charm then Mr. Spooner says "Only from Old Continentals" |
