I'm sure this topic has been posted time and time again, but I wanted to share my story with the rest of my fellow fans!
I was dating a gal back in 1992 who was a big fan of the show. Our local PBS station aired the show twice each weekend, and she started taping some of the episodes. One evening she showed me a couple of episodes and although I had trouble following them at first, I could easily see the humor in the show. The characters were well defined and the writing was hilarious! She explained to me the premise behind the show, and how a new series, Grace and Favor, was out in the U.K. and some of those episodes would air on the PBS station as well.
I unfortunately did not follow the series too closely after we broke up, and didn't see the show for over a decade, but all these years later I "found" it again in late 2004. Our PBS affiliate continues to show episodes and now they have full-fledged Britcom weekends, mainly in the evenings on Saturdays and Sundays. I started watching the show again and was astounded at just how funny it was all those years later, and I appreciated it even more seeing as I could understand it better as opposed to when I first watched it when I was 17. I purchased the VHS box set of 21 episodes and the "Best Of" video a few months ago, and then I found this awesome chat board. Needless to say it's been a blast getting back into the show and communicating with fans from all over.
I just won the DVD set of "Grace and Favor" on EBAY, of which I only remember seeing one episode of back in '92. I can't wait for this to arrive! Now I can understand the different references made in the AYBSA section of the forum. :-)
Anyway, thanks for allowing me to share my memories of "how I got started", if you will. Long live AYBS and the fans!
