Mr. Lucas definitely. Spooner just wasn't that funny.

The comedic interaction between Lucas and the others was something lacking with Bert Spooner. He just didn't seem to fit in as well.
Mind you, he did look hilarious in that lift boy's outfit in the last episode! |

As moderator here, I welcome you, Musclemachine. I think we've certainly gotten the point that you enjoy the character of Mr. Lucas.

Poor Spooner. He just sort of drifted around, not impacting on anyone. Perhaps the writers could have jazzed him up a bit as they did in the last episode.Rose

Well, obviously Mr Lucas is much better looking, but I think there's a bit more to it than that. He was sarcastic, I know, and was a total flirt, but I think there was a bit of vulnerability behind it all that you don't get with Spooner because Lucas really wanted Shirley and didn't know how to deal with it. Someone has mentioned that his love life was a mess on this board, and I'd agree with that...after all, he never managed to hang on to his girlfriends for very long. You know he's not happy with his life, and the sarky comments and chasing girls is his way of making a career at Grace Bros bearable!

It was probably very difficult for Mr.Spooner to have to step into such a challenge. I guess we kinda expected a lot from him, because we knew how good Mr.Lucas was.

No favorite here. I like both of them. They both play the character of menswear junior differently.

Mr.Lucas, hands down.No disrespect to Spooner,he just had impossible shoes to fill.Trevor played the character perfect. He was so funny, and had great timing.Mr.Lucas was also a perfect "opposite"to Mr.Humphries.Those two together would always create quite a scene.

They both had their ups and downs, but I voted for Spooner, and I think that I was the only one, lol. I kinda feel outnumbered here, lol

You are certainly right when you say that he was nasty. For instance when he called Mrs.Slocombe an old trout, that was just rude, and it wasn't even funny. Even the audience didn't laugh. Mr.Lucas would be able to insult her and get a few laughs.

Mr. Spooner sucks.... It was originally Mr. Lucas's show and after he left, actually, after he wasn't in the spotlight... the show totally went downhill. Series 8 totally sucks without Lucas...

I agree absolutely and totally. Series 8 has just started here and it just wasn't the same without Lucas in it. I couldn't like Spooner, his lines just should have been Lucas's and they weren't right being said by someone else. The final series (or season) should have been in 1979 and they should have: 1. Allowed the Brahms-Lucas relationship to have developed. 2. Ended with a wedding. He's my favourite, even if I am biased. "Well, there's Bambi at Studio 2, then 'round the corner there's The Unsatisfied Virgin. (pause) I've seen Bambi."

Trevor had to leave, whether for personal or professional reasons (jury's still out on that one..) so sadly, there would have been a "Spooner" of some sort, no matter what.
